Angela Perley and the Howlin’ Moons (Columbus, Ohio)
Angela Perley grew up in rural Ohio, raised on a steady diet of Patsy Cline, Billie Holiday and Wanda Jackson (as well as writers like John Yeats and Sylvia Plath). Noted for her well-crafted lyrics, Perley also has a stellar voice that reflects those early influences but is its own beast. She formed Angela Perley & the Howlin’ Moons in 2009 and the tight-as-hell band (featuring longtime pals Billy Zehnal and Chris Connor on bass and guitar, respectively, plus Perley’s high school friend Steve Rupp on drums) has released four EPs, including the most recent Nowhere is Now Here, and toured extensively since. There’s poetry and wonder in Perley’s music, which pulsates with a vintage Country heart but also has a modern, rockin’ vibe that gives the band unique footing in a crowded field.
