Frontier Folk Nebraska (Covington, Ky.)
Northern Kentucky’s Frontier Folk Nebraska is not a Folk band. A simple listen to the band’s self-titled album (or 2009 debut, Pearls) makes it pretty obvious that FFN is a trippy, shape-shifting Rock band that happens to use acoustic and electric guitars. The band writes excellent, evocative songs that have a psychedelic streak and hypnotic fluidity, whether whisper soft or full-bore snarl. The band recently lost member Steven Oder (who recorded the group’s albums and served as bassist) to graduate school, but plans on finishing its third album and a documentary with Oder while he’s in school.
