Hunters’ Izzy Almeida and Derek Watson met while working at an arcade in the Chinatown neighborhood of New York City. They eventually fell in love and started writing songs together, ultimately developing the fuzzy, buzzing style of Noise Pop that would become their band’s calling card. Featuring male/female trade-off vocals in the style of Sonic Youth or X, Hunters self-released a few cassettes and 45s before indie label Aagoo released the band’s Hands on Fire EP in 2011, leading to opening slots for like-minded bands like The Kills and JEFF the Brotherhood. Rounded out by bassist Thomas Martin and drummer Gregg Giuffré, Hunters moved from Brooklyn to Philly and are geared up for the release of their self-titled debut full-length, set for release the Tuesday before their appearance at the MidPoint Music Festival.
