Modoc (Nashville, Tenn.)
It’s not surprising to learn that Modoc formed while its four members attended Ball State University — there’s a Midwestern earnestness in their sleek brand of Rock & Roll. The guys have dropped two albums in 18 months, including a recent self-titled effort driven by its first single, “Runnin’,” a shimmering slab of radio-friendly Rock that also possesses genuine urgency amid its rather straightforward pleasures. Frontdude Clint Culberson has the kind of emotive pipes that make A&R dudes drool and the band’s bio isn’t shy about hyping the praise that’s fallen from the lips of industry peeps. Yet there’s no denying these guys could enjoy a Kings of Leon-style breakout on a mainstream landscape desperate for new blood.
