On An On (Chicago/Minneapolis)
Rising from the remains of the unexpected implosion of Indie Pop outfit Scattered Trees, the newly christened On An On crafted Give In, a debut record that finds the band’s three members — Nate Eiesland, Alissa Ricci and Ryne Estwing — moving into a more ethereal, dream-like direction. The pensive opening track, “Ghosts,” features slinky Electro beats and lazily strummed guitars as Eiesland delivers evocative lyrics about someone who’s no longer around. “The Hunter,” meanwhile, sounds like MGMT before they started taking too many drugs — driving beats and shimmering keyboards do battle with soaring, electronically manipulated vocal harmonies with blissful results. Maybe more bands should implode and reform as new, creatively refurbished entities?
