The Locals (Chicago)
Cincinnati native Yvonne Doll is the singer/songwriter/guitarist of The Locals, which she formed in Chicago about a decade ago when she moved there to attend the Art Institute of Chicago. The band — also featuring bassist Christy Nunes and drummer Tommy Oedering — tours the Midwest extensively and has released a steady stream of albums, EPs and singles since forming, receiving high-praise from seemingly any reviewer who’d listen. Doll writes upbeat Pop Rock songs with great melodies and a dash of Punk, but it’s Doll’s powerful, evocative voice and guitar work that sets The Locals apart from your average, everyday Power Pop ensemble. The trio just released the five-track EP Stereotastic Funicular, which shows that Doll and The Locals are only getting more compelling with time.
