The Natives (Cincinnati)
Hip Hop group The Natives emerged in Cincinnati last year in a big way, releasing two albums that showcased the crew’s eclectic style, a mix of creative MCs that draw from a variety of Hip Hop to create their distinct flows and live instrumentation that gives the group a more unique live presence. The group’s debut release, Native America, was built from the ground up, with adventurous, analog synth-riddled soundscapes that show the influence of Jazz, R&B, ambient, progressive EDM and experimental Indie Rock. Coup d’etat followed, produced in a more mixtape fashion, yet just as dynamic and powerful. The group scored nominations at the 2012 Cincinnati Entertainment Awards for Best Hip Hop and Best New Artist.
YDIIYD: Modern Hip Hop that is light on clichés and heavy on smart lyrics and a fearless, progressive production approach. (MB)
