The Regrettes (Columbus, Ohio)
Inspired by the vintage Soul of Stax and Motown, The Regrettes debuted just last year, releasing their debut album, Don’t Talk Back, a few months later and building a following fairly quickly with their endearing approach and solid live show. The sextet is fronted by two vocalists — Mehgan Hutchinson and Lizzy Morris — who deliver the melodies and harmonies with both precision and soul, recreating the “girl group” groove of classic Motown groups like The Supremes and Martha and the Vandellas beautifully, but dosing it often with the more fiery style of Aretha Franklin or Tina Turner. The Soul revivalists also include the air-tight rhythm section of drummer Adam Scoppa and bassist Dan Barnes, keyboardist James Allison and guitarist Dennis Tanner, who each help give the band its sturdy, groovin’ base.
