Vandaveer (Washington, D.C.)
Back in MidPoint’s scrappy early days, Lexington, Ky., band The Apparitions were one of those interesting unsigned bands that you’d stumble in on and they’d end up being the highlight of the night. Ohio-born Mark Charles Heidinger is back at MPMF, quite literally singing a different tune, this one steeped in dark Americana. Heidinger’s Vandaveer is a revolving Indie Folk/Pop collective based in our nation’s capital that has released four albums, most recently this year’s Oh, Willie Please, a more collaborative work consisting of reimagined traditional murder ballads taken almost entirely from the public domain.
YDIIYD: Songs about shootings, drownings, strangulation, hanging and other methods of murder, delivered with lilting intensity. (MB)
