Wild Cub (Nashville, Tenn.)
Don’t let the Nashville reference scare you into thinking Wild Cub is even remotely related to the city’s twangy singer/songwriter scene. Barely a year old, Wild Cub hews closer to the blippy, quirky ‘80s, when synths and guitars roamed the planet and made Dance music that was not merely bearable but essential. Wild Cub’s debut album, Youth, recorded and released a few short months after the quartet coalesced, is a marvel of dark Pop melodicism and bright Dance rhythms that channels the synthy pulse of three decades ago while maintaining a firm foothold in Indie Pop’s present tense.
