Youth Lagoon (Boise, ID)
Trevor Powers, operating under the nom du Pop of Youth Lagoon, has concocted a cathedral-like soundtrack in the privacy of his lo-fi basement/bedroom in the service of moody and reflective tracks that detail his sonic conceptualization of dysphoria, the umbrella term for anxiety, unhappiness and depression. Like a dark and soothing yet disturbing mirror image of Owl City and My Morning Jacket, Youth Lagoon has filled his first two Fat Possum albums — 2011's The Year of Hibernation and the just-released Wondrous Bughouse — with gauzy minimalism, aggressive ambience and a deep spiritual sense.
YDIIYD: Brian Eno and David Byrne explore their lives in the bush of David Lynch's ghosts. (BB)
